The Confused

Yet one more prelate is up in arms about all this talk of gay marriage and remarried Catholics having access to Communion.  His reason is that the laity will be confused.  Why is this so often the reason given?  I don't find lay people confused.  I find prelates afraid of changes happening in the world of the 21st century.  It seems that the laity are not given much credit for being able to figure things out.  Maybe this is why the ordained want to give the people so little power.  Hierarchical organizations tend to be this way.  They tend not to listen.

  1. I wonder how many laity are like me. We grew up in the Church. We are comforted by the sacraments and the mass. We struggle to keep a relationship with God. We are good people who love God and our neighbor but the hierarchy of the church not so much. The best parish that I have belonged to was a Franciscan one where Father Michael said that we are all welcome. He made a point of saying that we are all equal in God's eyes. Sometimes I think that the organization of the church thinks they are more important than the laity-----you, Fr. Terry, excluded , of course. God bless you for sharing your thoughts.
